A No Objection Certificate is a letter from an employer, sponsor or authority saying they do not object to something you want to do, like switching jobs, travelling, or applying for another visa. In parts of the Gulf and South Asia it can be a hidden gate between you and a job move, a visa, or even leaving the country, and whoever issues it can simply refuse. Reforms have removed it in some places, but it still turns up where you least expect, so ask early whether any step you are planning needs one from someone who could say no.
You line up a better job and go to make the switch, then learn your current sponsor has to issue an NOC first and is in no hurry to help you leave. A move you thought was your decision turns out to sit in someone else's hands.
