Go, but rent a scooter and pick your neighborhood like your sanity depends on it, because it does. Floripa is the easy-mode entry to Brazil: safe, online, beautiful, and well-organized by Latin American standards. The catches are real, the geography fights you without wheels, summer is a crowded price-gouged scrum, and winter is greyer than the brochure admits. Come in the shoulder seasons (Apr-Jun, Sep-Nov), base yourself in Lagoa or Campeche, learn enough Portuguese to deal with a landlord, and it is one of the best surf-and-work setups on the continent.
