RECOMMENDED ROUTE · Destination Thailand VisaNo income test. Financial evidence of at least THB 500,000 (the Washington embassy also accepts US$16,000). Washington's DTV page, revised 1 September 2026, requires the last three months of savings or checking statements each showing an ending balance of no less than THB 500,000, or a sponsorship letter. Other missions differ between an ending balance and funds held across the full period (Dubai has required the latter). Consulate-specific: check your reviewing mission. Liquid funds only in practice.

What the file has to contain
These are the documents the authorities expect for the lead route. This is a reference list, not an eligibility check: whether any one item is met depends on your own situation. Items marked for apostille must be legalized before they will be accepted.
Standard validity; digital scan uploaded to the e-Visa portal.

Washington embassy (revised 1 September 2026): last three months of savings or checking statements, each with an ending balance of no less than THB 500,000, in your name and dated; a family statement needs proof of relationship; a sponsorship letter is the alternative. Other missions vary between an ending balance and funds held for the full period.
Employment contract, employer letter, business/company registration, freelance contracts, invoices, or portfolio showing work for a foreign (non-Thai) employer or clients. For soft-power tracks: enrollment/booking confirmation (Muay Thai, cooking course, medical appointment).
Residence/location evidence; DTV must be applied for from outside Thailand.
Filed and paid within the Thai e-Visa portal.
Not listed as a baseline DTV requirement on official Thai MFA/embassy pages. A specific mission may still request additional documents.
Thailand acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026 (130th party) but it does NOT enter into force until 28 February 2027; until then foreign documents still need consular legalization by a Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate, not an apostille.

Paw.162/2566 exempts income earned before 1 Jan 2024. A rumored 2025 rollback is NOT confirmed as enacted (treat as speculation).

For most remote workers, the route that matters is the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): no income test, a five-year multiple-entry visa with 180 days per entry, but you must show THB 500,000 (about $16,000) and, at the Washington embassy since 1 September 2026, that balance at the end of each of your last three months of statements, with a $400 fee. The paperwork is worth it if you want long-term flexibility without proving earnings, though it is a temporary long-stay visa with no path to permanent residency. If you need a decade of stability and can show US$80,000 a year in personal income over the past two years, the Long-Term Resident visa is the stronger bet, but that income threshold is a real hurdle, and its residency link is reported but not officially confirmed.
