Standard residency requirements

Oman is NOT a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961). Foreign public documents (degrees, police clearance, marriage/birth certificates) CANNOT be apostilled for use in Oman, they require the full consular legalisation/attestation chain: (1) notarise/certify in the issuing country; (2) authenticate by the issuing country's competent ministry (Education for degrees, Justice/Interior for police clearance); (3) legalise by the issuing country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; (4) attest at the Omani Embassy/Consulate in that country; (5) final attestation by Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on arrival. Budget extra time and per-document fees at each step.

The law says

Official rules, verified against government text.

Income requirement
$10,400 / month (USD)
Fixed monthly income ≥ OMR 4,000 (6-month Omani bank statement) + prior Omani employment ≥ 2 years + age ≥ 60
Initial duration
Issued as investor residency (aligned to the 5- or 10-year tiers)
Renewal
Renewable subject to continued eligibility (income + residence)
Maximum stay
No per-entry cap; full residency
Tax status
No personal income tax in 2026. Pension and investment income is untaxed. Royal Decree 56/2025 5% PIT above OMR 42,000/year begins 1 January 2028 (residents: worldwide income); the OMR 4,000/month (=OMR 48,000/yr) income threshold here would exceed the future PIT floor, so retirees on this route should monitor the 2028 law.
Processing time
Not officially published
Official cost
Falls under the special-residency fee schedule (OMR 300 for 5-year / OMR 500 for 10-year per Ministerial Decision 234/2021), plus service and medical/insurance costs; exact retiree-specific total not separately published.

Reports Oman offers a free 14-day visa to 100+ nationalities (Indians qualify with a valid US/UK/Canada/Australia/Japan/Schengen/GCC visa or residence plus return ticket/hotel/insurance), and that you can switch to another tourist visa online before expiry, the practical 'stay on tourist visas' route.HELPFUL TIP · @_asif · 2026-08-03

The bottom line on Oman is that there is no dedicated digital-nomad visa, so the paperwork only makes sense if you are either getting a traditional employer-sponsored work visa (typically two years, tied to the contract) or you have serious capital, the Investor Residency Program’s Golden tier requires a minimum OMR 500,000 investment or a company employing 50+ Omanis, while the Silver tier needs OMR 250,000. For most remote workers, the realistic route is the tourist e-visa, which allows 30-day stays per entry but cannot be converted to residency from inside the country, so it is a stopgap, not a long-term solution. Also note that a 5% personal income tax on high earners is announced for 2028, but it only kicks in above OMR 42,000 a year, so it is not a barrier for the average freelancer.
