Malaysia is NOT a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is not accepted; foreign public documents (police clearance, marriage/birth certificates, degrees) must instead be authenticated in the issuing country and then legalised by the Malaysian embassy/high commission there, plus certified English translation if not in English/Malay.

The bottom line: Malaysia’s most relevant route for a remote worker is the DE Rantau Nomad Pass, and the bar is a fixed monthly income of at least US$2,000 if you’re in tech or digital work, or US$5,000 per month (US$60,000 a year) if you’re not, so the paperwork is worth it mainly for tech workers who clear that lower threshold. That pass lasts about 12 months and offers no path to permanent residence, so treat it as a temporary, renewable-style stay rather than a long-term settlement move. If you don’t fit the tech/digital category, the other active options (PVIP or MM2H) demand roughly US$9,000 in monthly offshore income, which is a much higher bar and still gives you no direct route to PR.
