What the file has to contain

These are the documents the authorities expect for the lead route. This is a reference list, not an eligibility check: whether any one item is met depends on your own situation. Items marked for apostille must be legalized before they will be accepted.

01
Route closed to new applicants

LMRA does not accept new Flexi Permit applications since 17 Feb 2023.

Official document reference

Bahrain acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention (in force since Dec 2013), so an apostille is legally valid. BUT for residency/work-permit filings Bahraini immigration (NPRA) and LMRA in practice still expect the full GCC consular-attestation chain on foreign public documents: notarize in home country -> home Ministry of Foreign Affairs -> Bahrain embassy/consulate attestation -> (in-country) Bahrain MOFA. Non-Arabic/English docs need a sworn translation, also attested. Confirm per-process whether apostille alone is accepted; assume attestation for immigration.

Post claims Bahrain 'officially integrated a Digital Nomad Visa pathway in May 2026 - up to one year.' This directly CONTRADICTS r/Bahrain practitioners who say no DNV exists and you use the 90-day visit visa. Migration agency post sells the standard Bahrain pitch: no income tax, lower cost of living than Dubai, strong finance job market, plus a Golden Residency Visa for qualified professionals. there is no digital nomad or freelancer visas in Bahrain. There's a one-year visa, so you can enter Bahrain for 90 days and then reenter once...

you're basically right - nothing wrong with a tourist visa in most places if you're working online and it gives a 6 month+ stay.

CHANGE ALERT

@AdFeath 路 2026-07-07. Post states a concrete Golden Residency formula: professional route needs a job offer or self-employment income of at least BHD 2,000/month; investment route needs property of at least BHD 50,000; 10-year renewable. UNVERIFIED single-source figures (confidence C), cross-check against official Bahrain LMRA/NPRA text before publishing any number.

The bottom line on Bahrain is that the old Flexi Permit is gone, so the route that matters most now is the Bahrain Golden Residency Visa, which is a permanent-residency program with a real bar: you need a basic salary over about USD 5,306 per month, insured at that level for five years, and only basic salary counts, bonuses and allowances don't help. If you clear that hurdle, the paperwork is worth it for a 10-year status that is officially described as permanent residency, but if you don't, the fallback Self-Sponsorship Residence Permit is less clear-cut, with no automatic path to permanent residency and reported but not officially confirmed details.
