What the file has to contain
These are the documents the authorities expect for the lead route. This is a reference list, not an eligibility check: whether any one item is met depends on your own situation. Items marked for apostille must be legalized before they will be accepted.
Passport valid and current; for the consular route minimum 6 months validity from the date of entry and at least one blank page (two sides). MERCOSUR nationals may alternatively use documents listed in Annex I of the MERCOSUR travel-document accord.
Only foreigners whose nationality does NOT require a tourist visa to enter Argentina can use this category. Nationals who need a tourist visa are excluded.
Signed application stating personal data and the independent remote work activity(ies) to be carried out in Argentina. Consular route also uses the standard Argentine visa application form (complete all fields except 50 and 51).
Brief CV stating experience in the field of work and level of studies/training achieved. Consular route requires a Spanish translation alongside the original.
Documents supporting the activity: employment/service contract, company endorsement or proof of labor demand, certifications, or receipts of income/fees, with at least one reference to your occupation. Some consulates additionally request the last 3 pay stubs and last 3 bank statements. Consular route requires a Spanish translation.
Certificate of no criminal record issued by the Registro Nacional de Reincidencia, required for applicants over 16 in the in-country transitory-residence route. With a preferential appointment this is processed outside RaDEX and must be presented on the day of the appointment.
For residence applicants, a police/criminal-record certificate from any foreign country of residence in the relevant period is commonly required and, being a foreign public document, must be apostilled (or consular-legalized if the issuing country is not a Hague party) and translated to Spanish by a National Public Translator. Not all consular short-stay filings request it; the in-country residence file emphasizes the Argentine certificate.
Acreditación de Domicilio (proof of address); for in-country residence this means a local Argentine address such as a rental agreement or accommodation proof.
Some consulates (e.g. Embassy in Austria) require medical insurance covering the stay in Argentina, presented in Spanish. Not listed uniformly across all consulates or in the core in-country checklist, so confirm with your specific consulate.
One passport-type photo (commonly 4x4 cm, white background) requested by several consulates and for the in-country residence file.
Argentina is a party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention (in force since 1988); the official Migraciones page explicitly states foreign documents must be apostilled if issued in a Convention country, otherwise legalized by an Argentine consulate, and in all cases translated to Spanish by a sworn National Public Translator (Traductor Público Nacional) and legalized by the Colegio de Traductores.

- No single official USD fee. Consular visa route: a consular fee applies (e.g. the Argentine Embassy in Austria quotes 150 EUR; amounts vary by consulate and are set by the Foreign Ministry). Online TIE 24H and in-country residence: migration fees ('tasas migratorias') are published in Migraciones' fee table (cuadro de tasas migratorias) and paid online; a preferential/expedited appointment carries an extra charge. Verify the current tasa before filing.

The bottom line for a remote worker in Argentina is that the Digital Nomad Visa is the easiest route to start, but it only gives you 180 days and offers no direct path to permanent residence, so treat it as a temporary stopgap, not a long-term plan. The route that matters most for staying is the Rentista Visa, which requires a reported monthly income of at least $1,150 (5 times the national minimum wage, guaranteed for two years) and lasts one year, giving you a real foothold to eventually switch toward permanent residency after a few years. If you're serious about settling, skip the nomad visa and go straight for the Rentista bar, it's the paperwork that actually counts.
